Stop Smoking Day 87 - Monday April 7th 2008

Still here and still not smoking. Hope everyone else is doing well too.

I went to the doctors today to get some more “happy pills”. I told him I felt better but that I still couldn’t be bothered to do anything. He said that was normal and he would expect things to improve over the next 4 weeks, and after another 4 weeks for things to be “as good as they’re going to get”.

I asked about coming off Champix too, as I’ve been on it now since 1st January. He asked if I felt confident that I could keep off the fags. I said that I was pretty sure I’d be OK, so I’m stopping the Champix from today. I’ve still got 6 days of Champix left though, just in case things go awry. I know how I reacted last time I stopped taking it, so I’ll be very wary.

You can never be totally sure of anything, but I’m as sure as I can be that I won’t smoke again. Of course, you never know what lies ahead in this life and anything could happen to trigger it off again. But, like I said, I’m as confident as possible that it won’t happen.

Hi Pete
Steve from Aust here again.
Went to the pub on Friday night for a quick drink( they have banned smoking in Victorian pubs since last year) and noticed the foul stench of this woman as I walked passed going inside who blew smoke all over me. Not sure if it was the smoke, her, or a combo. I am on day 74 I think or 73Anyway, had great friends over for dinner Saturday (the husband smokes a lot) and went outside with him sure but did not smoke.
What i am getting at is I have changed now- I think. It's like a little annoyance now and then but I do not wish to go back. I can't. My rehab has been largely successful. I am not out of the woods completely- I read if you make it 3 months you have a less than 30% chance of going back, make 2 years you have a 3% chance of going back full time. The ones who go back are less educated ra ra ra.
Anyway, thanks Pete for your sterling efforts to quit and encouraging me and I suspect counterless others. I am nearly 3 months wow! Do I feel great- not really still a bit average but I guess that is how bloody powerful this thing was over me for 20+ years.
Cheers mate
Steve

Smoking can hook you because cigarettes contain nicotine which is highly addictive. But being hooked is not an excuse why you cannot quit smoking. Smoking has been proven by several researches to be great threat to one's health that is why there is no reason why one who is already hooked to it should not quit smoking. http://www.besthealthmed.com/quit_smoking.html

Hello Pete,
Your last post was Day 87.
Are you still smoke free?
I am on day 17 and was hoping you could answer the question you asked your friend about when things will feel normal and not be thinking about a smoke all day.
your prvious answer was between noe and 11 months.
Can you narrow it down for me?
Thanks Pete, hope to hear back from you.
Regards,
Jay Deacon

Somebody once said that for smoking you have to pass the 3-day, 3-week, and 3-month barriers to be successful.

I noticed you were quite close to the three-month period of quitting. Were you successful?
